The Far
Hills Inn occupies a 45 acre waterfront property--a spectacular
Laurentian site only an hour from Montreal.
The existing hotel
was built in the 1940s and expanded ad hoc over the course of several
decades. It currently is comprised of a Main Lodge and two ancillary
structures -The Spruce and the Cedar Lodge.
The scope of the project
involves two phases: the first aims to renovate the existing hotel
facilities -including the creation of a spa- while the second involves a
broader site strategy proposing the development of approximately 40
condominiums and 40 apartment hotel units.
The design concept
hinges on highlighting and strengthening the low-key charm of the existing
inn and the lush natural landscape so as to appeal to the green-conscious
clientele.. The proposed exterior and interior aesthetic showcase a
harmonious palette of organic and recycled materials while the orientation
capitalizes on passive solar heating and ventilation. In addition new
retro-fitted building systems offset the high energy and water consumption
of the existing structures and provide superior performance and efficiency
to conventional buildings.
