Julia
Bourke Architecture Inc. first received an award for the energy efficiency of one of their
buildings in the 80’s. Now a member of the Canadian Green Building
Council, Julia Bourke Architecture Inc. has devoted several years to the research
and development of sustainable design techniques, strategies, systems
and the identification of appropriate resources and materials at both
architectural and urban design scales. The firm uses various
programs related to environmental and green architecture, such as the
Renewable Energy Development Initiative (REDI) and the Commercial
Building Incentive Program (CBIP). Two members of our team are LEED
accredited professionals.
Our experience in the field of
'green'
architecture distinguishes us at the international level with innovative
projects such as the development an ecological village 'The Hamlet'
in India. On the national
level, the R-40 Houses demonstrate affordable strawbale housing, one in
the urban setting of downtown Montreal, the other a prototype home
within the rural Kanata 2000 sustainable neighbourhood. Both projects are recipients of Affordability
and Choice Today (ACT) housing innovation awards.
In the
Montreal metropolitan area, the Westmount Recreation Centre project
illustrates our efforts at an institutional scale.
Our
projects are designed to be “sustainable” in all senses of the
word: culturally, socially, technically and economically. |
